Former Biggest Loser contestant Sam Poueu is in critical condition at a San Francisco hospital after falling several stories off of a building on Saturday, Sept. 3. The Season 9 competitor has reportedly been in the intensive care unit since the fall, being treated for several serious injuries.
A fan favorite on the NBC reality series last year, 24-year-old Poueu suffered a broken leg, a pelvic injury, torn ligaments, and a punctured lung, TMZ reports. Although he's dealing with critical medical issues, Poueu can still recognize visitors, sources say. So far, no details have been released about the circumstances leading to Poueu's fall.
NBC released a statement to E! News offering the network's support to their reality contestant, who lost 142 pounds during his time on the show.
"Sam Poueu is a beloved member of our Biggest Loser family and we are keeping him and his family in our thoughts and prayers," the statement reads.
Poueu is engaged to his Biggest Loser castmate Stephanie Anderson, whom he began dating by the third episode of their season. He popped the question while taping a special episode for the series last October.
After their engagement went public, Anderson gushed to Us Weekly: "You look for a partner who loves you for everything you are and everything you're not. And that, for me, is Sam."
