Facebook continue to play around with Privacy Settings so it is important to keep on top of your own personal requirements.

Status updates on Business Pages are always public.

Access this via the drop down menu that comes off the cog on the top right of your blue navigation bar. Or, more simply by clicking on the padlock symbol a little to the left of that cog.

Padlock Symbol for Facebook Privacy Settings

The padlock symbol will show you the settings for:

  • Who can see my stuff
  • Who can contact me?
  • How do I stop someone from bothering me?

Use the drop down menu next to each to see the various sub-sections and select your privacy of choice.

For most people, this should be set to Friends. However, you can use the drop down menu next to Friends to see your other options.

It is always a good idea to keep any eye on your Activity Log ? to see what people have been tagging or writing on your wall. You should also check what other people can see when they view your page.

Facebook Privacy Settings for photos

Having said that, photos can be a real problem when it comes to Facebook privacy settings. Click the link to see the hoops you will need to jump through to protect your online photography. Always remember this vital rule. If you don?t want your mother to see it splashed on the front page of a newspaper, don?t put it on Facebook. That rule should apply to anything you put on social media.

Facebook Privacy Settings for problem friends

Many will receive an invitation to become friends with someone that you know but are unsure whether you want to have complete access to your personal life. You can accept their friendship request and add them to the Restricted List. This means that they will only see any public status updates that you make.

Remember to check your Facebook Privacy Settings regularly as Facebook has a habit of resetting to default without notifying you.
