WARREN TECHNICAL Comments The position is for a Professional Foods Teacher. This individual must have the required certification or be eligible to attain certification. The individual must have a sincere desire to work with special needs young adults. This includes preparing our students to participate in local, regional and state competitions. The ability to modify content to assist students is essential. Providing assignments that will allow our students to gain hands on experience is an important aspect of this position. This individual must have strong instructional skills and strategies. Teaching and supervising students in the classroom is a major part of this position. Providing classroom demonstrations that will support learning is important. You will work as part of a teaching team that includes two teachers and three para educators. You will be required to plan with this team so that all lessons are coordinated.

Warren Technical School is a vocational center for special needs young adults. We serve students from every school in the DeKalb School System. Our students are taught a vocational area, communication skills, life skills and customer service skills. We also provide academic instruction to support the transition of our students into the world of work. Some students participate in work based learning. This affords our students the opportunity to enhance their educational experience by training at various companies. We also assist our students in obtaining full time employment.

Supervision of students at the training sites and school, assisting in MARTA training, job coaching and monitoring and job development are also expected in this position. Since it is important that we demonstrate the behaviors that we want our students to acquire, excellent attendance and punctuality are vital. Flexibility, patience and the ability to work as part of a team are required. Experience working with special needs students is desired

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
May require:

Knowledge of curriculum guidelines for the school system and state requirements; standardized testing in accordance with school system policies and state laws; DCSS policies, programs and procedures pertinent to learning disabilities, child and substance abuse, and social adjustment.

Skill in effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication; preparing assignments and tests for in-school preparation and homework; maintaining order in a classroom setting; administering the school system?s discipline policies; counseling students with academic difficulties and behavioral problems.

Ability to plan and develop course of study suitable for specific grade levels; develop lesson plans incorporating lectures, projects, group discussions, exhibits, field trips, audiovisual and library resources, computers and the internet; continue completion of professional courses according to school system and state guidelines, demonstrate patience and appropriate, professional demeanor when interacting with students, especially while presenting information to students that is new or unfamiliar.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor?s degree from a Professional Standards Commission approved accredited college or university in relevant educational field required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PERMITS:
Valid Professional Standards Commission approved certificate in appropriate educational field at level T-4 or above required.
Valid Professional Standards Commission approved subject-specific endorsements required.
